How Do I Keep My Dog Off the Screen Door?

My boyfriend and I both have dogs and during the day they stay in the back yard. Whenever my dog sees someone enter the living room through the door, she jumps up on the screen and scratches at it. The screen has already been replaced once due to my boyfriend’s dog tearing it up and I don’t want to have it happen again.

How can I keep my dog off the screen door? I tried to close the curtains so she can’t see inside but she still hears/sees movement sometimes. I tried ignoring her but she is very persistant and that doesn’t seem to be working either.

Help!

That’s one of the downfalls about having dogs. You really cannot blame the dog though he is just happy to see everyone. I had a dog that did this and we screwed a thin metal grate to the outside of the screen door. That way they didn’t come into contact with the screen when they jumped up. Or remove the screen door completely and just have the glass doors.

Maybe consider covering the lower portion of the screen with a metal, maybe even get a design on it. If there is only a screen there the dog will tear it up, and you will have to replace it not only this time but into the future. To remove the problem you’ll have to change the situation to accomodate the dog.
Or place the dog in a fenced in portion of your yard so he don’t have the ability to come in contact with the door at all. Maybe a Chain-link type pen in the yard.

They make a really hard screen, you can buy it at the hardware store. It’s almost like a metal grate. My parents had that problem with their doors and so my dad got that stuff and stapled gunned it on the outside and left the regular screen on the inside since that helps keep out bugs.

GET A STORM DOOR INSTEAD OF A REGULAR SCREEN DOOR-THE STORM DOOR HAS GLASS ON THE BOTTOM AND TOP AND THE TOP PIECE CAN BE MOVED DOWN SO THE SCREEN PART IS AT THE TOP.
